Morgan Clark Foundation – Youth Empowerment Project

While the Morgan Clark Foundation continues to support healthcare and the education of children from nursery age to 15years, the current major project is to develop business opportunities for young adults in Sustainable Tourism. The project is based at Morgan Kunda Lodge.

After 22 years of rule by a ruthless dictator, the country is struggling to create a future for young people. The result is a huge loss of life each year as young people try to find a new life in Europe and die during the perilous journey. They call it ‘The Backway’ – to a new life!

Morgan Kunda Lodge was originally built as a Training Centre and accommodation for volunteers. Training courses are still run and volunteer accommodation is still provided, but now it is being upgraded to provide accommodation for tourists; primarily Bird Watchers and Wildlife enthusiasts.

Our first season started in Nov 2018. We had great feedback about the bird watching facilities, food and our amazing staff (all from local villages). The one serious shortcoming was the bathrooms which, while clean, were not up to standard.

With new bathrooms and air conditioning Morgan Kunda Lodge will become the centre of Tourism in the North Bank Region.

If you look at the reviews so far, you will see that Morgan Kunda has the potential to be very successful - morgankunda.com/reviews.

Each bathroom is going to be re-tiled and fitted with a new shower, sink, wc etc. Our estimate is £300 per room and we have 8 rooms so the target is £2,400.

The young people of the region are incredibly enthusiastic and want to develop a future for themselves in their own community. With your help we can provide a base from which they can start to create that future and bring ‘Back Way’ migration and the unnecessary loss of young lives to an end.
